COMPANY PROFILE

The basic mission and strategic plan of the company's assurance of technical and technological innovations and services in the fields of metallurgy and materials engineering with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of Czech metallurgy and heavy engineering.

MATERIÁLOVÝ A METALURGICKÝ VÝZKUM s.r.o. (the company MMV) is one of the last research institutions in the Czech Republic and the only center in the Moravian region, conducting a comprehensive experimental and material research in metallurgy and materials engineering. He specializes in:

  • Research on production and forming of steels,
  • Research process of secondary metalurgy,
  • Research of advanced forming technology and controlled forming processes using  universal PLASTOMETR SETARAM,
  • Evaluation of conventional and non-conventional material properties in an accredited testing laboratory of fatigue and fracture behaviour,
  • Evaluation of creep characteristic of materials,
  • Chemical analysis and emission  measurement inan accredited and testing laboratory,
  • Structural and phases analysis of metal materials,
  • Analysis of the causes of degradations of metallic materials,
  • Production of ingot steels weighing to 1700 kg,
  • Production of grey , alloyed and special castings weighing to700 kg.

Experimental ands production capacity are concetrated in the company's accredited and non-accredited laboratories and pilot plant. They include mechanical machining shop testing, which ensures the production of test specimens and samples for laboratory and production products and prototypes for individual research departments.Machining includes samples of work for mechanical cutting of materials. The largest of the five saws can cut steel block with dimensions of 800x640mm.

A separate department  LABORATORY consist of:

  • Laboratory of fatigue and fracture behaviour – accredited testing laboratory No.1300,
  • Chemical laboratory and emmision  measurement – accredited laboratory No.1300.2,
  • Laboratory of treatment

Accredited laboratory of fatigue and fracture behaviour has procedures for  evaluation the basic mechanical properties( tensil tests, impact tests, hardness measurements) and for evaluation non-conventional mechanical properties(fatigue properties of materials, estimation of brittle failure resistance, ie. determination of brittle-ductile transition temperature and evaluation of fracture toughness of material, DWT,DWTT tests), that are increasingly part of the technical standards of business cases. The laboratory is equipped with electro- hydraulic testing facilities  fy MTS with a capacity of 500 kN and 100 kN. Part of the test equipment is a temperature chamber and three-band resistive furnace to allow testing in the temperature range -196 ° C to +800 ° C and a number of sensors that allow the setting of special mechanical characteristics at temperatures up to 800 ° C. Electro-hydraulic test equipment INOVA 40 kN static autoclave is equipped with a volume of 11 liters, which is used to evaluate material properties of steels exposed to the water environment of high temperature and high pressure.
Chemical laboratory and measurement of emissions is accredited procedures for chemical analysis of metallic and oxide materials of iron and its alloys, analysis of gaseous, liquid and solid wastes, including their extracts, corrosion testing and material testing HIC and SCC in sulfide, the procedures for measuring emissions of particulate and gaseous pollutants, sampling procedures for the determination of heavy metals and persistent substances in emissions.
To test the corrosion resistance of the material in the hydrogen sulfide is available to independent testing laboratory which is equipped with a safety device in case of accident signaling exceeded permissible concentrations of hydrogen sulfide.
Within the research and commercial activities performed analysis of special types of steels and alloys, including the development of new analytical methods and develop technologies for processing waste and waste analysis.
In connection with the project "Regional Materials Science and Technology  Centre"  are collected for both new investments and laboratory test equipment that will enable their further development.
Part of the department Laboratories is also a laboratory heat treatment, which is equipped with 11 laboratory furnaces controlled from a single computer, allowing long-term laboratory heat treatment with quenching in water and oil.

Among non-accredited laboratories that are part of the research sections include:

  • Metallographic laboratory equipped with two digital microscopes and laboratory   metallographic structure and phase analysis microprobe equipped JCXA-733 equipped with 3WD Adanced Micro System, scanning electron microscope JSM 5510 and transmission electron microscope and JEOL firm.
  • Creep Laboratory, which is one of the largest laboratories in Central Europe. 40 classic lever machines and 1 multiple machines for simultaneous testing to 345 specimens. Due to the ongoing and planned restoration of the classical energy sources in the Czech  Republic can expect long-term capacity utilization of this laboratory.
  • Plastometric laboratory testing equipment SETARAM, which was renovated in 2006 in the frame of the project the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports- Research Centres "Research and verification of new non-traditional production routes of metallic materials".

Pilot plant is equipped with induction furnaces with a capacity of 1700 kg, induction furnaces with a capacity of 350 kg and equipment for electroslag remelting   electrodes with a diameter of 320 mm equipped with a chamber furnace  VKT 2400 fy LAC Rajhrad required for heat treatment of ingots ESP.
Finally, a pilot plant located on the vacuum and pressurized induction furnace load 1700 kg, built 13 878 thousand. CZK in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, project: "Research and verification of new non-traditional productionroutes of metallic materials."
Science and research activities are mainly focused on industrial enterprises of the  Moravian region (EVRAZ VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a.s., TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY, a.s., VÍTKOVICE, a.s.), ČEZ, a.s. and other external customers from all over the Czech Republic. Very important is the current cooperation with the VŠB-Technical University of Ostrava in the project "Regional materials science  and  technology centre”.
The company MMV focuses  external activities in addition to solving technical and business cases to address public scientific projects competition of Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Education,Youth and Sports,Czech Science Foundation and regional competitions Ministry of Regional Development.
No less important part of the new business policy MMV international cooperation in research and development programmes based on the framework of the European Union, the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) and international projects of basic research COST. Were also established bilateral cooperation in dealing with projects with research centers in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Austria, China, France and Holland.
The way to achieve implementation of all strategic goals and enhancing competitiveness of the company is subject to document Quality Policy and Quality Objectives of MMV in accordance with standard ČSN EN ISO 9001.
